ST VINCENT'S HOME, MAGGONA, SRI LANKA
St. Vincent's Home, Maggona, is an Institute for under privileged children, i.e. for boys, founded in 1881 by the first European missionaries. This is the first Social Service Institute to be established in Sri Lanka for children of all faiths and ethnic groups. To provide guidance and training to these children, St Vincent's Home is managed by resident Priests & Brothers of the Congregation of the Oblates of Mary Immaculate (OMI) since 1884.
We have approx 150 children between the ages of 07-21yrs and the Institute provides education, clothing, medical, board & lodging.  Some of the children are orphans, while some are abandoned by their families due to financial or personal reasons, children living in difficult circumstances in their homes, some traumatised and unmanageable at home due to socio/economic reasons. There are children who are also sent here by the Dept of Probation & Child Care and by the Juvenile Courts. Children over the age of 16yrs  are following various vocational training courses provided by the Institute, viz. computer, printing, carpentry, lathe, motor mechanism, electrical maintenance, to name a few.  This is to give them an opportunity to settle in life once they leave the Institute.
