Having escaped he returned to France and continued his studies in Rome.  After completing his studies he returned to France and was sent on mission to Henry IV of France.  St Vincent De Paul was appointed as chaplain to slaves.  He founded the Congregation of the Mission in 1622, a society of missionary priests also known as Vincentians.  It is also said that he founded the Congregation of the Sisters of Charity in 1633.
The Society of St Vincent de Paul (SVP & also known as Ladies of Charity) was established in his memory and dedicated to the serve the less fortunate.  This society is very active in almost all Catholic Churches in the world and the parish community join with the members of the society to reach out to the under privileged. 
St Vincent de Paul was honoured and respected for his compassion and generosity and most of all for his humility and revered for his sense of caring for the poor.
The feast of St Vincent de Paul is celebrated on 27 September.

Saint Vincent de Paul (24 April 1581 – 27 September 1660) born in Gascony, France, to a family of peasant farmers, was a priest of the Catholic Church dedicated to serving the poor.  He is now venerated as a saint in the Catholic Church and was canonized in 1737.
